The SLIATE is a statutory body operating under the purview of the Ministry of Higher Education and is one of the leading higher educational institutions in Srilanka. SLIATE has been focusing on fostering Advanced Technical Education at post secondary level. It is mandated to establish Advanced Technological Institutes (ATI) in every province for technological education. At present it manages and supervises 11 ATIs and 7 ATI Sections. Its Chief Executive Officer is the Director General while each ATIs and ATI sections are headed by a Director and an Academic Coordinator respectively.

ATIs are specialized educational institutions that focus on providing high-quality technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in specific areas like engineering, technology, and skilled trades. They aim to equip students with the practical skills and knowledge demanded by the modern workforce.
ATIs offer a wide range of programs, including diplomas, certificates, and associate degrees in various fields such as: HNDE, HNDA, HNDIT,HNDM, HNDHM
Admission requirements vary depending on the specific program and ATI. Common requirements may include: High school diploma or equivalent Entrance exams or aptitude tests Interview Work experience (for some programs)
